It's about time.

I guess most people would rather settle their rivalries online by spamming each other hate messages than battle it out like a man with discreet projectiles, but I want one.

Hey Boston, I'm getting a bit desperate & none of my friends are pulling through on this one.
Does anyone have a firewire a to b cable in the Mission Hill/Brookline/JP area that I could borrow for an hour or so in the next day or so? I really need to transfer this video from my friend's camera & nobody seems to have one! Help?

| Anybody belong to Equinox? |
[16 May 2008|02:45pm] |
Hey,
I have an Equinox membership that i NEVER use. My friend is coming to visit for a few weeks and I was thinking of lending her my card but I cannot remember for the life of me if they have my picture on file. Anybody know?
PS Yeah I know it's a little shady. :( But I'm paying them a ridiculous sum of money every month and haven't gone at all, so they're still getting the better end of the deal!

http://www.designobserver.com/archives/037644.html Iron Man is the fulfillment of all the computer-integrated movies were ever meant to be, and by computer-integrated, I mean just that: beyond the technical wizardry of special effects, this is a film in which the computer is incorporated, like a cast member, into the development of the plot itself.

| Help with Lace |
[16 May 2008|02:29pm] |
I bought this incredibly gorgeous, incredibly thin lace weight yarn and want to make a scarf with it. I attempted to make the Branching Out scarf with it but this stuff is so thin and slippery that if you breathe the wrong way on it, everything goes wrong and the branching out pattern was too complicated for me to put it back together when things did go wrong.
Does anyone know of a REALLY easy lace pattern that I could attempt with this yarn?

I need help !!! A good friend of ours just graduated as a nurse, I’m looking for a small charm (like to go on a necklace or bracelet) that is nurse related. ( I’ve seen charms shaped like a band-aid and I thought that would be super cute) So I guess im asking what would be a good idea for something “nurse-y” and simple and 2.) Where would be a place to look for charms? I’m also looking for another gift. I live in Gresham, but have to go to Beaverton Saturday morning so location is not an issue, I just want to make sure that the place im being referred to actually has charms J Thanks your all great Oh and Happy Friday

| Coconut Macadamia Shrimp with Warm Tropical Salsa |
[16 May 2008|02:13pm] |
This is x-posted from my personal journal. It was a celebratory dinner for my husband. He just received a job offer we'd been hoping for. More recipes can be found in my journal (some f-locked). New foodie friends are always welcome.
**********
First, let me say if you happen to be vegetarian, the salsa alone is worth the price of admission. It is out of this world. If I weren't trying to slim and tone, I could've happily been a complete glutton with it.
This whole meal was outstanding. Really. I don't even like shrimp and I ate nearly a half pound! D, of course, loved it. We've been so conscientious about no fried food or shellfish that Darryl must've thought he'd truly died and gone to heaven. For his birthday, I plan on surprising him using these as an appetizer and adding my Cheddar Bay Biscuit knock-offs, a nice steak, double-baked potatoes, tossed salad and his favorite banana pudding for dessert. Modified slightly and picture taken from an old SL.

Warm Tropical Salsa 3/4 cup orange marmalade 1 TBSP fresh lime juice 1 TBSP orange juice 1 1/2 tsp horseradish 1 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard( Read more... )

Posting from: the land of fail.
I am looking for two tickets to the X/Detroit Cobras show at the Paradise next Tuesday. 'Dise says they're sold out.
Willing to pay $30/cash each.
If you have 'em, and want to part with 'em, reply here or to dianalily [at] yahoo [dot] com.
Yes, I have a post on Craigslist, and thought I'd see if there's anyone here who needs the cash/just got dumped by the person they planned to take/will be in the emergency room/has a hobo semen-extraction date/etc.
Thank you.

Jason Mraz - Sleeping To Dream |
] |
"The world is no longer a romantic place, but some of its people still are, and therein lies the promise. Don't let the world win."
Life has been getting steadily better. At this point I haven't really been able to move past the stressful mess (impending familial divorces, crazy coworkers and managers) of the last few weeks when work and family issues cropped up, but I think I can safely say I'm in a better state of mind to sort through it all. Sometimes the best medicine for your soul isn't solving all the problems laying at your feet, but realizing that eventually, with time, you will do just that.
Despite all the turmoil with those issues in my life, I have been very happy as of late. Some of it has to do with the welcomed pleasantness in the weather here in the City that Works. After what felt like the longest winter in my memory, it seems that spring might have awaken from hibernation and finally made it's fashionably late entrance. Trees are sprouting in vibrant hues of green, and the sun seems to have made a habit of dancing happily across our lakeshore on a consistent schedule. Nothing perks your mood like feeling the gleeful caress of sunbeams on your face and the almost sugary hints of florals on the breeze as it kisses your face.

*The view of the Wrigley building across the river from where I take Arabic class at the University of Chicago. Years ago, mostly in high school and college, I would have strongly chastised Chicago as a city that was unabashedly ugly and unkept. When anyone asked me where I was from, I'd almost regret that the name of the Windy City was required to tumble it's way over my embarassed lips. Funny how a few years of hard life experience can change your outlook on things. I've always said I didn't think Chicago was my forever home, but do have a deep sense of appreciation and love for my "hometown" now. As Kanye West says, "The good life is summer time in the Chi!" We've got a pretty good collection of unique architecture that punctuates the more mundane structures as you meander through the sprawling expanse of the city limits, and while I am not always the biggest fan I can begrudgingly admit that Mayor Daley has put a good foot forward in terms of landscaping the high traffic areas like Millenium Park and Michigan Avenue. I think my new digital camera will be put to good use in the next few months.....
The sunny demeanor of the city seems to be reflecting the sunny demeanor in my heart. This change in weather has inspired me to reflect on my previous post about worrying and how I'm not as worked up over things as I was then.
Life is full of worries, and if you're not careful I guess you can get caught in the tethers needlessly. A few weeks back I wrote about my tendency to worry needlessly about things. Nothing has changed since that point in terms of my level of worrying, because it's always there in the back of my mind. The fact remains that there are good and bad things in this world, and any amount of thinking and concern that I give to the future doesn't change what my fate will bring to me in the days, months, and years to come. All I can do is take one day at a time, and learn to enjoy the little nuggets of pleasure that embed themselves in my everyday life. Deeds great and saddening will come to bear, and when they arrive I'll be prepared to celebrate and mourn them accordingly. I let things bog me down to easily, and I'm renewing my commitment to moving past it.
From this day forward it's all about the now, and making sure that even if sometimes things don't end up great for others, they will end up great for me. I won't let the world win. I have to have faith in the idea that eventually we all end up happy.
And besides, today is a great day. =)
"Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow. It only saps today of its joy."
